Summary: Eager to help an old friend, a siren sets out to seduce the shy owner of a local tea shop and soon discovers that the young woman is steeped in secrets of her own.

“Have you ever gotten hurt?” Claire asked.

Melina looked up from the crème brulée tartlet she had started to tap her spoon against. She thought she detected a note of concern in Claire’s tone, and it pleased her.

“Well, let’s just say I’m a lot tougher than I look, and I don’t believe in hiding inside a shell.” She punctuated her comment by breaking through the caramelized topping and taking a mouthful of rich custard. She relished it as Claire watched, fixated.

After she swallowed, she again tilted her head curiously. “Aren’t you going to ask me about my other form of exercise, the sex?” she asked flirtatiously.

Claire took a sip of her tea before responding. “I did mention I’m from Iowa, right?” she joked.

Melina laughed. “Surely women have sex in Iowa. Even with each other. No?”

“Wow, you weren’t kidding about having no boundaries. Is that a lesbian thing, by the way?”
